Eastern vs. Western RPGs: Cultural Differences that Shape Games

Mainland

A Simple Text Adventure Game

Developer: Vasily Voronkov, Ryan Joseph, Peter Kosyh
Publisher: Instead Community

Released on May 8, 2015

Mainland is an interactive text storybook adventure set in the 19th century. After a closer look, I’m more convinced that it is not actually a game but rather a fictional novel where you type commands into the text box to generate a specific action.

You control an explorer who was shipwrecked on an unknown island, being the sole survivor of a plague that killed both the captain and crew. The narrative is told in 1st person from his perspective as you progress through the entries written in his diary.

Genre: Free-to-play Indie Game

It’s making me wonder about the debate because apparently at higher levels, shooting enemy teams in Overwatch is more precise on a keyboard which is why console users are buying a Xim4 adaptor to even the battlefield.
